I prefer 6 team playoff, 2 divisions, division winners get byes, next 4 best records play in the 1st round. I prefer this format also instead of the typical 8 that makes the playoffs, if possible this i what i envision Top 6 make play offs Top 2 get 1st rd bye's Next best 4 make playoffs regardless of division Next 4 teams (7th-10th place) make the consolation playoff Bottom 2 teams don't get the luxury of playing in anything but and should remain dead last for the rest of us to point and ridicule them for having a bad season. thats just my idea. Agreed. And the bottom 2 wear a dunce cap until the next system starts...honor system in effect.

I also agree with this, but from what I have experienced I'm not able to "make" a consulation round in the settings on Yahoo. The consulation round is made up from the teams that lost in the first round and get eliminated from there out. My next post will be an outline of what we can all work from. Please give opinions and such. I think this will make for a great dynamic in the league.

Just throwing it out there... but this is what we do in my other football league...
1-6 are determined in the playoffs. Prestige points are scaled based on playoff results.
7-12 are given prestige points based on regular season record.
The prestige point difference isn't enough and some get the same at the lower end. And prevents anyone trying to tank in the consolation bracket to get a better draft pick.
Generally speaking, in the 5/6 place game, the minor prestige point difference and the fact that draft pick location isn't nearly as crucial, means that the game is still very competitive.

I agree that this part needs to be changed as well. I do know we ran into this problem in one of our league and it really ticked off a few people....lets get the divisions set and we can go to that next. Great point though and I'm glad you brought it up.

OK this is what I came up with. Now bare with me and I'll explain how and why I came up with what I did. I spent a long time in the middle of the night going back into the past seasons figuring out the different franchises and what GM too over what team and it was quite fun but it took a long time to do what I did. This is what I propose we have for 2 Divisions
Division A (average place finished in Hoops Gm history as a Franchise) Hollywood (3.18) London (4.90) Dayton (5.09) Cairo (6.0) Cape Fear (6.36) Berlin (6.4*) ------------------ Division B Nova Scotia (6.9) Smallville (7.18) Asheville (7.18) Murfreesboro (718) Fort Wayne (7.36) New Orleans (9.18)
Each Season I would update the average wins and based upon that it would determine what division your team is in. Now because this League has been around for such a long time there wouldn't be much change from year to year but I think it provides a little pride striving to get in the top group. Which is why I originally wanted to do 3 Divisions, getting into that top 4 would have been an honor as opposed to the top 6 and obviously with hard work by Cairo and Hollywood, you don't have to be a GM that's been in the league since day 1 to have achieved that, So 3 divisions is really what I'd like to do but I'll leave that for you all to discuss below. We would still keep prestige points even though the formula may change based on a newer playoff format, but it would provide help in any tie breaker situation.
*Franchise was the first and only expansion team in Hoops Gm history. Our first year we had only 11 teams and this franchise has wins divided by 10 as opposed to the rest at 11. For the remaining seasons it will continue that same way.

I'd prefer to see the top teams split equally... however... I could go for this on 1 condition...
Division A is called the Premier League and Division B is called the Junior League.
Has to be a humiliation factor involved.
Also... something to think about... this is like rewarding teams for historic successes. I think you could really simplify this by just splitting it based on Prestige Point totals. We look at the last 3 seasons, so this is a good indicator of recent success. If it's good enough for our players to consider during contract time, it should be good enough to use for relegation/promotion.
I appreciate the work, but I think you over thought this one. :-)

I am all for being in the "junior league" as long as it makes my path to the playoffs easier.

Prestige points would simplify it and ensure that the current best teams are in the premier league. How about we call the other division the Busch League? LOL

Man, I hate to keep giving London credit but I like the Prestige Points angle as well. Maybe its because me, Cairo and London have the most that we support each other's ideas. We are like the EU or MERCOSUR (google that one!) of this group. When having dead weight like Baron Davis drags me out of the group this year, I will join the others in voting down their idiotic ideas. Until then...
BTW thanks to all of you...and I do mean all of you...who refused to take Davis tossed in on a trade. I couldn't have attached him to any more All-Stars either to help make him go away. I think I offered Wade, Aldridge, Rondo, Ibaka, Westbrook, Gandhi, Jesus and Davis for Nene's expiring deal and even that wasn't a go. So again, thanks for that. Mark my words he leaves the moment the waiver wire opens this year...
