In order to reward GM's who are active on the board for picking up "diamond in the rough" players off the FA wire, they should be able to sign them to a deal. In the NBA they have a rule where a team can sign a player for the remainder of the year after giving them two 10-day contracts, well the rule that was proposed is something similar, if a GM picks up a stud off the FA wire he has the option of giving that player a contract. heres a general list of how it would go.
1) The GM has 10 days to decide if they are going to sign the player 2) Each team is limited to 1 in-season contract per year 3) Contract must be 2 years/$3 Million (current season does count) 4) If team wants to sign the player, they must have the needed salary space

If you haven't voted. Please do. We need all teams to vote

It appears that the rule has passed. Now there needs to be a vote as to when to implement this, because if I had known that something crazy like this was on the horizon, I certainly would have left myself some salary cap space.

Good point. Maybe pass it but not put it in until the next season?

As for the Divisions we can do this for the the upcoming sesaon. We can go to that thread and discuss exactly how we can do this as a group.

Wait a sec. I voted the way I did because I thought it would go into play this year. So I think that should have been clarified.

Typically, voting for the next season takes place prior to free agency. These were additional topics that came up later. It wouldn't be fair to put this into effect when many GMs made FA signings not knowing this option would be available. The only fair way to move forward with this year would be to allow a team to declare amnesty from one bad contract, meaning we could all pick one player that we could release to free up cap space and not take a cap penalty on. If we did do this, the only fair way be to allow teams that already released a bad contract to declare amnesty from that player since the option wasn't available before. It's not a perfect solution, but it could worth discussing. It would allow everyone some more cap and roster flexibility going forward and would give every team a chance to take advantage of the in season signing option.

Actually... there is 1 other solution... temporarily move the cap up 3m for this season only.

If you were to enact this for the upcoming season then why not just amnesty one in season signing per team instead of changing cap or allowing someone to drop a contract.

LOL I would rather up the cap 3 mil for just this season, instead of letting each team have the option of dropping one player contract. I'm with Mike in relishing in people have been stuck with poop contracts lol
